SpaceX Stock Just Rallied 12% in a Single Day. Did Elon Musk Survive the Lockup Expiration Unscathed?
• SpaceX shares up 21% post-lockup expiration
• Multiple insider share releases planned through October
• Musk net worth dips but stock shows resilience
SpaceX (SPCX) shares rose 21.1% for the week ending Aug. 10, closing above the $135 IPO price for the first time in a month. This rally followed the expiration of the first lockup period, which freed 911.5 million insider shares on Aug. 6. Despite some employee selling, the stock climbed. Musk's net worth fell to $853.3 billion from $1 trillion after the IPO. Additional lockups are scheduled: 28% of the float unlocks after Q3 earnings, expected in late October or early November. Five time-based tranches releasing ~7% of shares each are set for Aug. 21, September, and October—before the next earnings report.
